About 8 months ago I was searching Amazon for a nice pedometer when I came across the Fitbit One. It was more than a pedometer, since it measured more than just your steps. All the basic stuff like step tracking, distance walked, and calories burned were included… but there was also additional functions I didn’t expect to get out of such a little device. Functions such as sleep activity monitoring, silent “vibrating” alarm, syncing of your stats through bluetooth, and more.

It wasn’t cheap compared to the basic pedometers I paid for in the past. The Fitbit One will set you back around $100, but with the features it boasts it’s worth the value… that is, if all the features are accurate. At the rating I gave it you probably already know the answer. 🙂

THE GOOD

  • Lightweight and Small – You won’t even know it’s there most of the time.
  • Clip is Incredible – I can only speak for wearing it with it facing the inside of the pocket… It’s never fallen off or moved a centimeter.
  • Accurate – It seems like everything is very accurate, at least compared to the rest of the devices I’ve tried.
  • Long Battery Life – Battery lasts about a week for me, and that’s 8 months of wearing it everyday. Plus the charge time is only about 1/2 an hour to an hour.

THE BAD

  • A Little Expensive – Costs around $100.

OVERALL

The Fitbit One works wonders for those trying to stay fit and active. I like the fact that it gives me a constant reminder to get my butt off the couch and to stay moving… the main reason being because I want to hit 10,000 steps per day (which is default). The positives easily outweigh the negatives with the Fitbit One. It’s a great little gadget to help track your activity and sleep. I definitely recommend it.

*UPDATE – 5/19/15*

I bought the Fitbit One way back in June 2013. I’m happy to say I’m still very pleased with it. The battery life is still incredible. It still lasts at least a week for me… and most of the time I can stretch it to a week and a half until I need to charge it.

Back in October of 2014, I decided to give the Microsoft Band a shot at replacing my aging Fitbit One. After a couple weeks though I had to return it. While it did have more features than the Fitbit One the simplicity and reliability that I’ve come to rely on just wasn’t there with the Microsoft Band.

As of this update, I’m still wearing the Fitbit and will continue to do so until something really enticing comes along.

*UPDATE – 6/21/16*

I’ve last updated this post over a year ago. I rarely ever stick with an electronic device of any kind for this long, but I’m happy to say that I’m still wearing the Fitbit One everyday. Even though another year has passed I still get at least a week of battery life on one charge.

My one and only complaint about the Fitbit One is the clip that it comes with keeps breaking. It’s still wearable but the bottom piece will fall off after extended use and will make it tougher to take off, as well as make it look tacky.

It’s not a big deal, and definitely not a deal breaker; just more of annoyance. I bought a new clip less than 6 months ago and it just did the same thing. It’s pictured below.
